Beautiful Dangerous Snowstorm

About 6 inches of wet snow fell quickly on Sunday evening. With the trees overloaded and crashing down on power lines, we went without power for more than 2 days. On Monday morning, I walked down our driveway to take a few photos before the snow melted.

This view at the end of the driveway is of Walker Mountain in the distance.

Looking in the other direction on our road, you can see how the trees were laden with snow.

Coming back up the driveway, the sun shone through the trees, truly a beautiful sight.

The wind picked up, blowing snow out of the trees.

The snow had mostly melted by Tuesday with temperatures climbing into the 60s Wednesday through today. But, we were hit with a thunderstorm Wednesday night and high winds today.

We thought we were well prepared with a generator but a mouse had chewed thru the wires. We only had enough water for a day too. So, now we are prepared for the next one. So, come on Mother Nature, bring it on!

  1. winter is unforgiving and comes like a bull in a china shop. Winter is beautiful and scary, no choice but to take it as it comes.

    glad you are prepared.

    1. the wild magnolia--I agree, winter is like a bull in a china shop. After a thunderstorm Wednesday night, we had great weather on Thursday. Then, the temperature dropped 30 degrees. Today it is windy and cold.

  2. Ah, beautiful. Thank you for sharing. We have had no snow to speak of this winter, which was right for us this year, but it's nice to see the wonder of yours.

  3. Wondered if you got dumped on by the snow ... Richmond had only a couple of inches and it was gone in 24 hours. The pictures are lovely, but know you hated two days without power. We will probably have at least one more storm, so good luck with your preparations for that one.

    1. webb--ours was also gone in 24 hours. After spending most of Wednesday cleaning up, my dog tracked mud in. I'm thinking the next storm won't be as bad.

  4. Thank you for sharing that! We did not have even ONE SNOWFALL of six inches yet this year; compared to the last two winters, now that's a mystery!

P.S. I do love it when the wind blows and the snow falls off of the trees. Even the ice falls off in little pieces.

    1. Louvregirl--that was our first really good snow storm of the year. There is such a quiet beauty about the snow--I love it but don't really mind it if it stays warm.

  7. The storm was fierce, wicked and short lived here in Tazewell County. For which I am very thankful. Today is beautiful, last night was severe thunderstorms and each day is a new day to wonder "what now?"
